Porcelain for outdoor spaces

Porcelain pavers and outdoor tile for patios, pool decks and garden paths.

Why porcelain works outdoors

Porcelain for outdoor spaces handles sun, rain and frost: it absorbs almost no water and keeps its color. Porcelain pavers are 2cm thick, so they can be dry-laid on gravel, sand or grass, or set on pedestals, as well as installed with adhesive like a tile.

Many designs come both as indoor tile and as outdoor pavers, so the same look can run from the living room out to the patio. See all porcelain pavers, or start with the area you are planning below.

Patios and terraces

Large pavers make a patio that is easy to sweep and hose down, with a textured surface that gives grip when it rains.

Pool decks

Choose a textured, slip-resistant finish around the pool for grip under wet feet, in a color that matches the house.

Porcelain outdoors: FAQ

What are porcelain pavers?

Porcelain pavers are 2cm-thick porcelain pieces made for outdoor floors: patios, pool decks, terraces and garden paths. They are thicker than indoor tile, so they can be dry-laid on gravel, sand or grass, or set on pedestals.

Can porcelain pavers be laid over grass?

Yes. Pavers can be set directly on grass or gravel as a garden path, with no concrete base. For a patio, your installer prepares a compacted base of gravel and sand, or uses pedestals on a roof terrace.

Are porcelain pavers slippery when wet?

Outdoor pavers have a textured finish made for wet areas, so they give grip around pools and on rainy days. Check the finish of each design with your dealer before you choose one for a pool deck.

Do porcelain pavers need sealing?

No. Porcelain absorbs almost no water, so it does not need a sealer and resists stains from leaves, wine and grease from the grill. Sweep it and wash it with water and a mild cleaner; our porcelain tile cleaning guide covers pavers too.

Can I use the same design indoors and outdoors?

Many designs come both as indoor porcelain tile and as 2cm outdoor pavers, so a living room floor can continue onto the patio in the same look. See porcelain for floors for the indoor side.
